GovSat-1: new concept in secure communications

GovSat-1 is scheduled for launch on 31st January on board SpaceX’s flight-proven Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida.

Aimed exclusively at government and defence users, GovSat-1 will be operating from 21.5 degrees East and will be ideally positioned to address communications and provide highly reliable and flexible interconnectivity within Europe, Middle East and Africa. It will also enable maritime operations over the Atlantic and Indian oceans.

Pioneer in a new tier of satellite supply tailored for governmental use

GovSat-1 is designed for dual use, supporting both defence and civil security applications, including mobile and fixed communications. It also provides enhanced resilience capabilities – with anti-jamming features, encrypted Telemetry and Control, and use of military frequencies. It is the first time that such an extensive security-enhanced satellite communications capability is being provided out of a public-private venture, where world-leading satellite operator SES combines its expertise with the ambitions and values of the Luxembourg Government.

This cooperation generates high efficiencies and synergies, to the benefit of new secured satellite communications offer.

GovSat-1 was built by Orbital ATK, and is designed to operate for 15 years in geostationary orbit. The satellite will be launched on SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket with a flight-proven booster from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida.
