Via Satellite Excellence Awards 2015

Fornebu, Norway, 18th December 2015 – VeriSat has been shortlisted for the prestigious Via Satellite Excellence Awards as the Technology Company of the Year for its novel and patent-pending SatGuard technology.

The introduction of VeriSat’s VSAT interference monitoring solution, SatGuard, brings a revolution to the industry in combating VSAT interference, an issue causing major operational challenges. For the first time operators can determine which VSAT terminals cause interference in a matter of minutes, something that until the introduction of SatGuard has taken weeks and months to achieve.

After being contacted by the major satellite operator SES 18 months ago, VeriSat developed a proof of concept that has proven to work as expected, allowing several major VSAT interference cases to be resolved quickly and accurately. Over the past 12 months, VeriSat has evolved the SatGuard technology and developed support for major VSAT technologies. SatGuard has already been procured by SES and Eutelsat. Trials are ongoing with a major operator and will continue in the near future with other operators.

“SatGuard has created major interest from satellite operators” says CEO of VeriSat Petter Amundsen. “SatGuard solves operational issues very quickly that until now have been almost impossible to resolve. Operators strongly appreciate that now VSAT interference can be managed and monitored in the same way that other services are monitored. We have received great support from key players working to mitigate satellite interference. We are very proud of our SatGuard technology and it is extremely satisfying to receive recognition for the technology breakthrough that it represents.”

VeriSat has also developed a user-friendly solution to determine GSM base station location by decoding the GSM interference and extracting the country ID and unique cell ID. The VeriSat solution can perform this extraction down to an SNR level of 2 dB, which is significantly lower than offered by more traditional solutions.

A spin-off of the SatGuard technology enables geolocation of the VSAT terminals by the terminal IDs. Tests have already been performed that successfully verify the concept. This technology will be launched in the coming months.

“We are honoured to have made the shortlist for these awards, which are highly regarded in the satellite community and aim to recognise companies pushing the boundaries for satellite innovation,” commented Petter Amundsen, CEO, VeriSat.

The awards will be announced at Satellite 2016 in March.
