Douglas, Isle of Man, 20th August 2014 – The Satellite Interference Reduction Group (IRG) today announced that it will be bringing its final Carrier ID (CID) Tour to IBC, following the success of the previous events.

The tours, which started at Satellite 2014 and CabSat, followed by CommunicAsia, were designed to introduce the Carrier ID technology. Carrier ID is designed to mitigate the often-costly problem of satellite interference by embedding an identifier into the transmitted carrier. The identifier will allow the association of an interfering carrier with a satellite operator, and then the operator can determine the customer responsible for the interfering transmission.

For the process to be successful, CID needs to be implemented throughout the link, which begins at “Transmission” with the modulators and DSNG encoders. Certainly many of the modulators on the market are already CID enabled and by IBC we will also see the launch of the first single thread DSNG encoder with CID enabled. The next part of the process is “Detection”, and there are a number of CID detection systems from companies such as Zodiac Aerospace, and most will feature in the tour.

Naturally, “Resolution” is the final and most valuable part of the process, and is handled by the satellite operators. Many operators are in the process of implementing CID decoding in their carrier monitoring systems, to meet the WBU-ISOG resolutions, which state that all satellite operators need to begin the process of CID implementation by January 2015.

The tour itself will walk participants through those stages, beginning with how CID is included at “Transmission”, visiting encoder and modulator manufacturers, Comtech EF Data, Ericsson, Harmonic, Newtec and Work Microwave for insight. It will then look at how the CID is “Detected” after transmission, which will involve demos from Crystal Solutions, SAT Corporation and Siemens Convergence Creators. The tour will end looking at how issues are “Resolved” thanks to CID. Satellite operators in this part of the tour include Arabsat, Eutelsat, Inmarsat, Intelsat and SES. At each stage, experts will be on hand to discuss the process and answer any questions, ensuring participants get the maximum benefit from time with those experts throughout the chain.
