SIG Working Groups

Flat Panel Antennas

Flat Panel Antennas (FPAs) have been a popular, and technologically necessary addition to the satcom ground segment. However, they have varying degrees of quality, and with it the potential to cause considerable errors, potentially impacting the entire network. We want to work with the most quality-conscious manufacturers and test facilities to create a standardised test process and set of guidelines around performance requirements and data sets.

Interference

While there are many tools available to detect and resolve radio frequency interference (RFI), it remains a huge challenge for operators. As the industry continues to move towards a multi-orbit environment, and the geopolitical environment remains unstable, this is becoming increasingly concerning. SIG remains the only association that brings together the technical people working at the sharp end of interference management. We enable the sharing of experiences and coordination in the case of incidents.

Cloud

Satellite operators are going from mhz sales (buy, sell, lease bandwidth for point-to-point or point-to-multipoint) to bits and point-to-point connectivity. There is an expectation of instant connectivity. Satellite involves long coordination process, and this transition is a challenge. Groups such as DIFI are crucial in helping with this transition. At SIG, we are enabling the industry to discuss shared experiences and learn from each other to make that as smooth as possible.
