As the geopolitical landscape shifts yet again, satcom’s value is greater than ever. However, to maximise satcom’s capabilities, it’s critical that the industry works collaboratively. This is why it was so fitting that this year’s GOVSATCOM Conference in Luxembourg centres around the theme: Collaboration is Key in Succeeding with SATCOM.
GOVSATCOM has become a must-attend event for international satcom players across the government, institutional, and defence sectors. Satcoms Innovation Group (SIG) representatives were among the one thousand plus attendees that headed to the conference this year for a day filled with insightful discussions on the evolving role of satcom in defence and security. As always, the event delivered an outstanding lineup of speakers and exhibitors, and provided a platform for industry leaders to exchange ideas, share knowledge, and explore new ways to enhance satcom’s role in global security.
SIG, SSPI and Radical Moves networking event

Ahead of the main conference, SIG was delighted to co-host a networking evening alongside SSPI and Radical Moves. The sell out event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with industry friends, old and new, and set the stage for the main GOVSATCOM conference the following day. The evening was resounding success, thanks in no small part to the support of our generous sponsors: Amphinicy Technologies, INTEGRASYS Group, Intelsat, Rohde & Schwarz, and ST Engineering iDirect. Their contributions helped create what turned out to a great evening had by all.
Networking events such as this along with the technical workshops that SIG runs throughout the year are an opportunity for industry professionals to come together to discuss the current landscape. SIG promotes discussions between industry operators and professionals in order to examine challenges and opportunities, as well as considering the technical aspects of industry efficiencies as a whole. As a membership organisation, SIG aims to advocate for cooperation across the industry, fostering relationships between operators, manufacturers and solutions providers by providing a forum for debate.

Reflections on the main event
One of the key takeaways from this year’s GOVSATCOM conference was the growing need for collaboration across satcom. From enabling closer collaboration between public and commercial operations, to improving resilience, and ensuring seamless communication in critical situations, the message was clear: working together is the only way to unlock satcom’s full potential. The panel discussions highlighted the critical role of collaboration, security, and innovation in advancing satcom for defence and governmental applications. Discussions emphasised the need for strong public-private partnerships, along with the need to build sovereign capabilities, and bridge the gap between strategy and execution. With rising cybersecurity threats and evolving space-based risks, ensuring resilient, secure, and interoperable networks remains a top priority. The integration of advanced technologies is clearly shaping the future of intelligence and surveillance, and at the same time hybrid satellite networks and multi-orbit capabilities are redefining military operations.
Ultimately, collaboration across commercial, institutional, and governmental sectors is essential to drive satcom’s future and ensure its success in an evolving geopolitical landscape. As we reflect on GOVSATCOM 2025, one thing is clear: the satcom industry must continue to work together to tackle the challenges ahead. Whether addressing security threats or technical challenges, collaboration is the key to ensuring satellite communications remain at the forefront of global defence and security efforts.
