Isle of Man and Buckinghamshire, UK, 24th April 2018 – The Satellite Interference Reduction Group and Intelligence-Sec have partnered to hold a workshop ahead of Defence Satellites 2018 in Paris, France.
The satellite interference workshop will be hosted by Eutelsat at its European headquarters on June 5th. Featuring senior speakers from both satellite operators and manufacturers, as well as industry associations, the workshop will be an invaluable opportunity to explore the current state of satellite interference and the tools and technology available to mitigate its effects.
Discussion topics include antennas, including the potential for drones to monitor RFI & antenna approval, the challenge of congested LEO/MEO environments, and space debris. The workshop will also explore what militaries and governments can learn from commercial providers, and the role of design and quality to ensure resilience to satellite interference.
Martyn Hill, Managing Director, Intelligence-Sec, commented: “The work of IRG within the satellite interference space cannot be overestimated. As such, I’m very happy to be partnering to deliver this workshop to the combined audience of Defence Satellites attendees and the Satellite Interference Reduction Group’s members.”
The Satellite Interference Reduction Group’s Executive Director, Martin Coleman, will be holding a special session during the workshop on the potential for Machine Learning and AI to solve satellite interference and manage future networks. The session will explore how existing operations data, combined with new data sources, could be used to facilitate AI-based tools for quicker resolution of incidents, and the viability of a digital assistant program.
“I’m really glad to be partnering with Intelligence-Sec to hold our first European-based workshop of the year. Collaboration between satellite sectors is key for solving incidences of satellite interference, but it is also absolutely essential when it comes to reducing the likelihood of these incidences in the first place,” commented Martin Coleman, Executive Director, Satellite Interference Reduction Group. “IRG workshops and industry events such as Defence Satellites facilitate much needed forums for discussion and debate, which I firmly believe are the catalysts of advancements in interference mitigation technology and tools.”
Defence Satellites will be held between 5th-7th June, covering topics including Satcom capabilities across Europe and N. America, SSA programs, the challenge of space debris and satellite imagery for military-civil use.

About the Satellite Interference Reduction Group
The Satellite Interference Reduction Group (IRG) is a leading organization working to reduce satellite frequency interference. The group has two main aims: firstly, helping the industry understand what tools, technologies, and processes are already available to reduce interference; secondly enabling development of new methods to reduce interference. This is done by creating a discussion forum for satellite operations engineers working at the sharp end of interference mitigation, equipment manufacturers, and other industry stakeholders.
